Pan Choi Yen or Yen, the newly appointed GSSKL Charity Coordinator hails from Petaling Jaya attended the Assunta School run by a nun embodying the motto of To Truth Through Charity.

Having spent a year in Germany as a management trainee post university graduation left an indelible mark on need for nature conservation that led to a 4 year stint as a fundraiser with WWF Malaysia. Subsequently while undertaking marketing and brand development for multi-national companies such as Dumex, GSK and Wipro-Unza, Yen continued to be active in her own personal capacity to support conservation, indigenous community engagement, craft, sustainable energy generation, food banking and community empowerment initiatives. Appreciating that it is in our collective collaborative hands to make the world a better a place for all, continuous learning and leverages are warmly embraced.

Yen also enjoys hiking while discovering wondrous flora and fauna.

WIr freuen uns sehr darüber, die auserwählten Charities für 2023 präsentieren zu können.  Das gesamte Team hofft, weiterhin viel Unterstützung von unseren KL-POST Lesern und unseren GSSKL-Mitgliedern zu bekommen.

Wir möchten die beiden ausgewählten Charity-Organisationen für dieses Jahr hier vorstellen, um einen tieferen Einblick in ihre Arbeit zu geben.

Dignity for Children Foundation

Dignity for Children Foundation is a non-governmental organization that provides holistic care and education for urban poor and marginalized children in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur. It provides education programs from pre-school level to Secondary level, delivering the Cambridge IGCSE program & skills training. 10,000 students have been lifted from the cycle of poverty and deprivation since its inception 25 years ago.

The funds collected from the GSSKL Sparkling Christmas Charity Bazaar will play a significant role in furthering the educational pursuits of the Secondary students participating in the Travel & Learn program at Dignity Farm Academy in Bentong, Pahang.

The Farm Academy is a model transformative youth education grounded in community building, natural agriculture and skills development. This program offers an exceptional opportunity for the students to immerse themselves and thrive in a unique learning environment that fosters both academic growth and personal development that enables

Furthermore, a portion of the proceeds will be dedicated to the construction of a futsal court facility at the academy. This facility will not only encourage physical activity but also create a safe and stimulating environment for the students to engage in sports, promote teamwork, discipline, and overall well-being.

Lightup Borneo

Lightup Borneo is a Civil Society Initiative to bring electricity and light up off-grid interior rural Orang Asal villages in Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.

They engage closely with rural Orang Asal communities, recce, design, fabricate, build and implement micro-hydro generators to provide cost-effective sustainable renewable green energy as a catalyst and impetus to bring positive social impact, empowerment and development to rural communities.

Since 2014, over 40 villages have been lighted up with public financial and physical support. Imparting the required knowledge and skills to empower the villagers to take ownership of maintenance is given emphasis to avoid prolonged break down.

With GSSKL’s support, Lightup Borneo is looking to install 25kw, 3-phase 50-60hz micro hydro generators for the Orang Asli of Kampung Regang and Kampung Nyamok in Kuala Lipis in the state of Pahang. Once completed, 100 off grid houses of the Semai Orang Asli in Kampung Regang (80 houses) and Kampung Nyamok(20 houses) will no longer be in darkness after the sun sets.

Lightup Borneo has recently launched a Hydro Park, where visitors will be introduced to different types of hydro generators and learn to fabricate their own miniature hydro generators in Kampung Kelawat.in Kota Belud, Sabah.
